Most people who reach retirement age admit that they look back and question some of their choices. Although many of them may vary, some of the biggest regrets people have they share in common with others. By learning from others’ regrets, we can hope to avoid the same ourselves. Take a look at some of the most common regrets people have in life and what you can do to avoid them.

Working Too Much

One of the most common regrets that people have is dedicating too much of their time to their job and not enough to the people they care about most. Many people struggle to find a balance between personal life and work and realize too late that they failed to find the right equilibrium. Believe it or not, it’s possible to be passionate about your career and also spend time with the people that you love most. It’s all about prioritizing and organizing your time. Hopefully, you can manage to find the right balance yourself before you look back and realize that you didn’t take advantage of precious moments as much as you wish you would have.

Not Sharing Feelings Enough

A common misconception about strength is that it requires hiding your true feelings. However, hiding your emotions can be a dangerous mistake. If you fail to show your true self, then you’ll miss out on the opportunity to make genuine connections.  Have the courage to show people who you truly are, and don’t be afraid to let people know what you think. Hiding your true feelings is doing yourself and others a disservice. Find the courage to say the truth, even if your voice shakes doing it.

Not Traveling Enough

Travel is something much more transformational than simply taking a break from your work. . Travel opens your mind in ways that day to day life can’t and introduces you to different ways of living and thinking. Many people regret not having ventured outside of their comfort zone enough in their younger years.  Although it’s possible to do when you’re older, travel can be exhausting, and long trips may be better suited for your 20s and 30s.  Make sure that you see as much of the world as you can while you’re here during your short time on the planet.

Seeking Approval of Others

So many people spend so much time worrying about what other people think about them, that it takes decades for them to look back and realize there was no point in not being true to who they truly were. Don’t wait too long to let go and be exactly who you want to be without needing the approval of others!
