We all need a little encouragement sometimes 🙂
Encouragement is simply giving someone support, confidence, or hope; persuasion to do or continue to do something; or the act of trying to stimulate the development of an activity, state, or belief. (New Oxford American Dictionary)
I like to picture it this way: enCOURAGEment—helping another have the COURAGE to do that which they have been called to do.
We all need courage, the ability to do something that frightens us a bit. And homeschooling our children and teens may seem a bit scary at times.
It Takes a Bit of Support
Last year while on vacation to Colorado my boys talked me into doing a ropes course. Heights don’t bother me too much, so I wasn’t really worried. Besides, they have great safety gear (and this I know because more than once I found myself dangling in the air).
So when we were challenged to climb up a pole to a little platform and jump to what looked like a circus trapeze bar, I didn’t hesitate. No problem, I thought. But then I realized just how small the platform on top was, and noticed the pole seemed to be swaying just a bit—a bit more than I was comfortable with.
Even though I knew I had the safety gear on, I had to convince myself that I could do it. I could stand up, legs shaking on that little platform, swaying slightly in the wind, and jump to the bar like a middle-aged circus performer. And guess what? I did.
But without knowing that there was something there to save me if I fell, I never would have done it. Support gave me the courage to do it.
